‘Cucurella’ posts photo of him throwing his cleats in the trash

Puma were left in shock after Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella posted a picture of himself throwing his boots into a bin after slipping twice. And costing a goal in their win over Tottenham Hotspur – but the image has since disappeared from their account.

Cucurella was wearing the Puma Future 8s in Sunday’s London derby. But only played for 11 minutes before having to switch to a different pair.

He slipped twice, leading to two goals as Spurs went into the lead 2-0, but Chelsea eventually came back to win 4-3.

After the game, the Spain international post a picture of himself throwing his boots into a bin with the caption: “Sorry Chelsea.”

Cucurella later deleted the post, but the image has since gone viral – dealing a major blow to Puma’s marketing.

However, Cucurella’s struggles in front of an audience of millions will not have helped Puma’s cause.

The boots were advertised as specialising in three features – adaptability, movement and control.

But Cucurella did not display any of those attributes in a torrid opening to Sunday’s match.

His first error came after just five minutes. When his slip handed the ball to Brennan Johnson who raced past him before squaring the ball for Dominic Solanke to tap home.
