Barcelona have no plans to sign a new goalkeeper, the Blaugrana sporting director has confirmed.
Barcelona sporting director Anderson Deco confirm to Ufabet on Thursday that the club have no plans to bring in a new goalkeeper to replace Marc-Andre ter Stegen, as had been widely speculate.
Ter Stegen has been rule out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, the third surgery in four years for the German goalkeeper, and Barcelona are reportedly looking for a replacement, with Porto and Portugal international Diogo Costa a possible replacement, but Deco insists the Blaugrana have no such plans.
‘No, Marc has three years left on his contract, he is young as a goalkeeper, 32 years old and we have to focus on his recovery and come back well, so it is important to have two goalkeepers who are guaranteed so that he does not have to rush back. We are analysing little by little, I do not think it is something to consider at the moment,’ Deco said.
The Barca sporting director also explained that he wants Wojciech Szczesny to compete with Inaki Peña and that it will be up to Hansi Flick to decide who starts.
While also clarifying the links with Porto goalkeeper Costa.
‘First of all, he didn’t come because we have Ter Stegen. I don’t have any goalkeepers in mind at the moment because when Marc is fit, we won’t sign anyone. Also, if I was Diogo, I don’t know if I would come to Barcelona as a backup. We didn’t consider signing him and if I was in the same situation as him. I would go to a club Promotion ufabet where I know I would play. We are happy with the goalkeeper we have at the moment. I wish him well and, first of all, he succeeds at Porto. ‘
